All-American Voters Recognize Markus Howard’s Great Season

Marquette Golden Eagles guard Markus Howard did not have his career end like he wanted to this season. Howard’s year was cut short thanks to the COVID-19. While what happened was rare and unlike something we will see in our lifetime, Howard’s season is still remembered fondly. Over the past few days, there have been different All-American honors being handed out. Howard swept three different All-American teams on Tuesday making him a consensus All-American. He is only the fourth Marquette player to have that honor. Some worried that people would lose Howard’s season in the shuffle, but that did not happen.
Thank you Marquette. Everyone involved. It takes a village and you all have been apart of this journey with me. I am forever grateful. GOLDEN EAGLE FOR LIFE💛💙 https://t.co/JhLBAjhjrJ

Howard deserves the credit for the season he had in 2019-2020. He did some incredible things on the court. To me, the Marquette guard took his game to another level this season. It was not all about the 3-point shot. He looked for teammates more often and included a floater into his arsenal. The cool thing about his floater is it looked so much like Trae Young’s of the Atlanta Hawks. Howard had his moments of being unstoppable like the Georgetown game or when he dropped or when he scored 51 against USC. He was more than a scorer, but when Howard needed to go superhero, he did.
Two things can be true, sometimes. Howard didn’t have a postseason career to speak of besides a couple of NIT wins. But he did have an excellent career with Marquette. With the All-American honors, Howard deserves to have number 0 hung from the Fiserv Forum rafters. He is among the greats at Marquette despite not having much to show for in March. If anything, we can look back on this year as a missed chance at postseason redemption.
Congrats to Howard and thanks for the memories.
