Allen Robinson Heading to the Bears Bums Me Out
On Monday, we heard rumors about Green Bay being involved with Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins at the wide receiver position. It’s a different approach for Packers fans compared to the last regime. Some did wonder if this was more smoke than actual fire. Those people were correct. Allen Robinson goes to Chicago (Watkins’ blog coming soon), and that move hurts pretty badly. Bears get a top notch wide receiver to pair with Mitchell ‘Don’t Call Me Mitch’ Trubisky. Chicago finally gets a playmaking wide receiver which was a desperate need for them heading into the offseason. Robinson signs a three-year deal worth 42 million dollars with 25 million of it guaranteed. That’s a very lucrative contract for a player coming off an ACL injury.
Chicago making a move on Green Bay early tells me they’re ready to make their move in the NFC North. It’s not surprising given the influx of offense talent they added in the offseason. Bears have a solid big three with Trubisky, Jordan Howard and Robinson for the future of this organization. The former Penn State star showed he can make bad quarters look good, and while I’m not ready to call Trubisky bad, he’s very unpolished. It’s interesting he would choose a team like Chicago over Green Bay considering what the Packers could offer for January or February. The allure of living in Chicago compared to going from Jacksonville to Green Bay probably plays a factor in this equation as well.
Green Bay will continue to look for wide receiver help. I feel like the philosophy of adding an outside wide receiver is a good one, and the fact the Packers were involved with some of the bigger names is an encouraging sign whether you want to believe it or not.
