Austin Rivers Helps Fill a Gap for the Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee Bucks are going back to the buyout market again. Last year, Milwaukee used the buyout market to bring in Marvin Williams from the Charlotte Hornets. Williams did not have that much of an impact as Bucks fans hoped he would. But that’s the case with most buyout guys. They are usually not that impactful. Buyout players are more overrated than anything else. That said, they can help fill depth and fill positional needs. Austin Rivers will do just that for the Milwaukee Bucks. It appears that Milwaukee will sign Rivers in the coming days giving Milwaukee a backup point guard again.

What does Milwaukee get with Rivers? They get a guy who can make things happen offensively, play a little defense and has playoff experience. Rivers makes good use of the time that he’s in there. This is exactly what the Bucks need to add to their bench. A guy who can give Jrue Holiday a breather every now and again, add a few points here and there, and have enough size that defenses will not take advantage of you. Also, Rivers is still young. At age 28, this is not a guy at the end of his rope like Williams was last season, so, we could see more spunk from him.
We’ll see if the Rivers deal gets done today. He could be a huge lift to the Bucks immediately with Bobby Portis and PJ Tucker both out for the foreseeable future. Let’s hope Jon Horst can get it done.
