Badgers Breakthrough to the Top Four
Wisconsin Badgers waited patiently as the new College Football Playoff rankings were announced on Tuesday night. Could the committee really find another way to screw the Badgers or would this finally be the time where Wisconsin saw their name in the top four. The latter occurred as the committee put Wisconsin at the four spot playing Clemson. What this means is basically what we’ve known all along… If the Badgers win, they’re in. It’s not hard.
The one question that people might be asking now is how high can Wisconsin go? I don’t know if there’s a scenario where the Badgers are the top ranked team. I’d be stunned if it happens, but if you see all three teams drop ahead of them, maybe then you’d see Wisconsin at the top spot. If Wisconsin wins, they’re going to jump Oklahoma. I know the committee would likely prefer to not see a rematch of a game a few years ago where the Tigers dominated a young Baker Mayfield, but it’s probably the right move. Badgers should have the two or three spot with a win, and with the strong southern influence, this would mean a return to the Rose Bowl as the top seed would likely be in the Sugar Bowl.
I don’t think the pressure is different for Wisconsin on Saturday now that they’re in the four spot. These guys always knew that if they win, they’re likely playing in the College Football Playoff. If anything, this might loosen them up, because it’s a known fact that Wisconsin will be playing in the playoff with a win. Had they been number five it may have added to the pressure of the game against Ohio State.
Saturday’s game should be a classic. I don’t think the national media is ready to admit Wisconsin is better, but I feel pretty good about their chances.
