Badgers Players Fight For Quintez Cephus’ Return
Wisconsin Badgers football is underway with training camp into its second week. The biggest story from the Badgers’ camp might be Quintez Cephus, the former Wisconsin wide receiver. As you may recall, Cephus was accused of rape and the university kicked him out of school under the Title IX regulation. After a trial in July, the Madison court found him not guilty and the jury made its decision in about an hour. Wisconsin Badgers’ football media asked coach Paul Chryst if he wanted Quintez back on the roster, and Chryst said he would ‘love’ him back. Badgers’ captains and key players wrote a letter to Chancellor Rebecca Black to bring Cephus back to the university then Wisconsin’s roster.
The letter itself is so well-written and thought out that I’m impressed it came from college kids. They did a great job penning a powerful letter as well as be compassionate with their love for their teammate. They want him back on the roster, and they’re doing everything they can to bring him back to their team. I get that it is a sensitive situation, but Cephus is innocent. Sure, there probably shouldn’t be a social media video of him welcoming back to the team and the guys celebrating but there are zero reasons why he should not be reinstated. Does Black think that people will look at him differently and they’re trying to ‘protect’ him?
Black should welcome back because this is honestly the best-case scenario for the University. They should be lucky that Cephus isn’t trying to sue the university right now. Personally, I thought he would be going that route and sue the ever-loving shit out of them then go tryout for an XFL team in the Spring Yet he wants to be a college kid still and he deserves that right. If he was acquitted but had a history of issues, maybe things would be different. But this is the only blemish on his college career, and it proved to be untrue.
We’ll see where this story goes this month.
