Blake Martinez’s Recent Comments Show Capers Lost Touch
Blake Martinez is one of the better young players for this Green Bay Packers defense. He could be a stud in the National Football League if Martinez becomes a better pass defender versus tight ends. But the Stanford product is a damn good run defender and plays his ass off for the Packers. The comments he made to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Michael Cohen (Different guy) about ‘accountability’ makes me think Dom Capers might have been the poison pill to this defense which surprises very few.

Some of the comments made in this article make you wonder why the hell did Capers get such a long leash with the team? Head Coach Mike McCarthy is not one to fire guys, and he can be a little too loyal to some of his friends. From what it sounds like it in Cohen’s article, Capers should have left a long time ago. It’s good to see there is a new regime in town, but frustrating it took a 7-9 season to get some actual change in the organization.
Mike Pettine reaching out to guys early on in the offseason is great. I like the idea of Pettine touching base with those who matter and instill some hard-nose thinking along with confidence. That’s a good way to start as a new defensive coordinator with the knowledge up front that this is the way we want our defense to go next season, and if you’re not down with it, let’s find you a new team. Having discipline in the Packers defensive room is long overdue, and I think for most players including Martinez, it will be a refreshing change.
