BrewCap: Cain Starts Road Trip off Right
Milwaukee Brewers embarked on a 10 game, 3-city road trip yesterday starting off in Coors Field. After a tough 2-3 homestand, it was important for the Brewers to get off on the right foot. Lorenzo Cain did just that with a leadoff home run to put Milwaukee up 1-0 early on. Brewers bats looked solid all night with the team getting 12 hits early on (Will forget they didn’t get another hit after the fifth). Brewers bullpen stood stall again and gave Milwaukee a 5-2 victory to kick off the road trip.
Player of the game: Lorenzo Cain -> Great night for Cain. He had the home run but also walked twice and a single for a solid night at the plate. He was one of three Brewers who had two or more hits in this game. Cain setting the table for the rest of the team is one of the better parts of the Milwaukee Brewers season thus far
Hon Mention: Brewers bullpen -> Once again, the bullpen looked awesome. Matt Albers did a great job getting Milwaukee out of a double play in the 6th then pitched a clean 7th. Corey Knebel looked better in his second time out in the 8th then Jeremy Jeffries shut the door striking out the side in the 9th. Jeffries is an all-star as much as Josh Hader is one.
Don’t forget about… Travis Shaw -> Hopefully, this is the game where we see Shaw go on a heater. He’s been scuffling a little bit at the plate and broke out with three hits. He scored two of the Brewers’ five runs.
Next up: Milwaukee will bring Brandon Woodruff to the hill to face Chad Bettis. Woodruff is getting the nod in place of Zach Davies who is still bothered by a shoulder issue. Bettis has been the ‘ace’ of Colorado’s staff, but most of his games have been away from Coors Field.
