Bucks Buzz: Milwaukee Stays Hot vs. Mavericks
Milwaukee Bucks came back to the Fiserv Forum with a four-game winning streak. They took care of business against three non-playoff teams and one fringe team last week. While Dallas will be on the rise next season, they’ve fallen off into the non-playoff teams in the NBA. But with Luka Doncic, they can beat anyone. Mavericks are one of the worst road teams in basketball with an abysmal 4-19 record. This is a game that Milwaukee had to have as a W, and they made sure it stayed that way with a big second half resulting in a 116-106 victory.
Player of the Game: Giannis Antetokounmpo – What a game from Giannis. The hype surrounding Doncic led Giannis to show him who is the man around these streets of Milwaukee. What a game from the Greek Freak. Giannis finished the afternoon with 31 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. He also made 10 of 12 free throws from the line. Dallas tried to put DeAndre Jordan on him and switch consistently yet neither of those things worked for Dallas.
Silver Star: Brook Lopez – Great game from Brook Lopez who continues to be one of Milwaukee’s most important players. Lopez finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Lopez had four made threes including a dagger in the fourth quarter that put away Dallas for the time being giving Milwaukee a 15 point lead. Thinking about who could be the other All-Star for Milwaukee besides Giannis, and I honestly think it’s Lopez. The impact he’s had on the team is immense.
Positive: Third quarter surge – Milwaukee got hit in the mouth in the second quarter by Dallas. They kept making threes and pulled out a lead at halftime. Bucks came back with a counterpunch of their own. They outscore the Mavs by 10 points in third quarter with a big push by the likes of Sterling Brown, Giannis and others. Milwaukee did not lose the lead after their third quarter run.
Negative: Doncic triple-double doesn’t impress me much – I’m not trying to be a hater I promise, but it’s hard for me to get that excited about a triple-double where there’s not one crooked number. Luka finished with 18 points, eleven rebounds and 10 assists. At one point, he was at 10-10-10. This is what we call a ‘Simmons’ where Ben Simmons has a triple-double, but it’s not anything special. Doncic had a PER of -9 despite a triple-double. Riddle me that.
Highlight of the Day: Vote on which player had the best dunk.
Next up: Milwaukee gets a long break for this part of the season getting a much-needed three day breather before they take on Charlotte at home. Like Dallas, they’re a bad road team. Hornets are the eighth seed right now and would be playing the Bucks. Hornets-Bucks matchup this year has been weird. Both teams had a blowout win disappear to a dramatic ending result in one win for Milwaukee and one for Charlotte.
