“If you don’t like Gus, enjoy the national broadcast on Thursday night.”

Seriously think about what you just wrote. Fans are annoyed that their broadcaster gets more hyped about the opponent than the local team he’s supposed to work for. And you’re telling these fans, who want a broadcast catered to them, to go watch the National Broadcast? How dense are you?

That’s another reason that Gus’s style is rubbing people the wrong way, there’s literally a national broadcast announcing the game in that same manner.

Also, if you think Gus getting hyped about the opponent is a one-off you clearly haven’t watched many of his FSWI broadcasts. It’s been an ongoing thing for Bucks fans. There were games where Bucks were winning where he was getting pumped up about the opponent coming back. Please name another local announcer who pulls shit like that.

Gus is fine in small doses, especially for something like the NCAA tournament. But he’s a terrible NBA announcer (even disregarding his commentating style, the guys knows nothing about the NBA. It’s clear the only time he’s engaged in the league is when he’s on air.

One other note, you know a gray area exists between being a Homer and openly “WOOOOH”ing for the other team right? Take Mike Breen or Ian Eagle, both can recognize a great shot and moment without sounding like a pre-teen girl. The implication that one has to be a massive Homer like Tommy Heinsohn or a cheerleader like Gus is a false dilemma.

Thanks for reading! As for dense, it depends on the post. I probably should have said ‘Listen to the radio’ but it would sound like I’m disrespecting Ted Davis which is not my intention. Davis is good at his job.

I’m not saying Gus Johnson is a ‘good’ broadcaster. You’re right, he mails it in more than Vince Carter’s final years in Toronto. That said, I’m not really going to worry about how he calls a finish of a close game. I care more about how Bucks are at 1-1 and in Toronto’s head more than most lower seeds in the playoffs, rather than worry about how a second-rate broadcaster calls the game. Jim Paschke is more of a ‘homer’ but he’s not delivering a better broadcast.

Breen and Eagle are some of the best in the business, so I’m not sure if the comparison fits. If Bucks could ever get Brian Anderson for these 20 games, that would be a coup and make us all happy.

You should really look at the whole picture before telling Bucks fans to fuck off. Did you watched the Big Ten Championship with Wisconsin losing to Penn St.? Gus has no love for Wisconsin, much less Milwaukee. Marques does love Milwaukee and would never react the way Gus did.. I get it, he is a neutral broadcaster — He should be doing national TV then, not local bucks games where only Bucks fans watch. Never have the Bucks had a neutral guy like Gus The hate for Gus goes back further than Game 2.
