BuckyCap: Badgers Pull a Houdini & Escape With Win
Wisconsin Badgers faced a tough opponent with the Maryland Terrapins on Tuesday afternoon. Both teams needed a win in their way. Badgers need to keep winning at home plus with Michigan State looming on Friday, a win here is great. Terrapins have not won a true road game all season. It looked like Wisconsin would let another home game slip by. Last week, they collapsed against Illinois. This week, they were teetering on the same thing with the Terrapins. Thankfully, Brad Davison bailed Wisconsin out late with two huge plays. Wisconsin scores a big win and continues to build their resume.
Player of the Game: Brad Davison – He had a great finish to this game. Davison scored only 14 points but came up with a few huge plays down the stretch. Davison hit a mid-range shot to keep Wisconsin close with about 40 seconds. Then the moment happened for him with an incredible headsy steal where he hit the ball on the inbounder. Davison would hit a three for the win and the rest is history. I don’t know if the term – Big Shot Brad makes sense. He had a few big moments, but I would don’t know if I give him that distinction.
Honorable Mention: Micah Potter – Once again, Potter gave Wisconsin a huge boost. Badgers forward scored 14 points in 13 minutes. Again, he proved himself to be a real factor for the Badgers. He needs more minutes though. I know Nate Reuvers had a good night (17 points), but you need to find a way for these guys to play together. To not have Potter close out the game with Reuvers made no sense to me.
One Thing To Admire – Wisconsin won a game with five guys scoring: If you want to have something that ‘only happens with Wisconsin basketball’, it is the fact that only five guys scored last night. One of those guys, Brevin Pritzl, only scored three points. For Badgers to play that good defense to hold Maryland down on a night when their offense didn’t have it is incredible and so on-brand for Wisconsin.
Next up: Wisconsin heads to Michigan State for a showdown with the Spartans on Friday night. Badgers have won on the road in their last three games, but this one is much harder. Michigan State got the doors blown off of them against Purdue last Sunday. They’re going to be stewing mad. Potter and Reuvers could be major factors in this one.
