Fair or Foul: Davison’s Last Second Charge Causes Stir
Brad Davison is going to be the least liked Badger basektball player in quite some time. The fans will adore him, but the opposing ones will despise him. He plays a perfect role as a successful point guard that gets under people’s skin and takes all of the charges even when some aren’t really charges. Davison is a great actor. Last night, Wisconsin won due to Davison setting a screen on the baseline leading the Western Kentucky player to run right into him. Many are mad the officials decided the final play or the game, and others are calling the play bush league. To quote Herm Edwards, Wisconsin played to win the game.

This Badgers team is struggling. They’re at 5-7 trying to claw back to .500 before the New Year. They need victories, so, some might come by their point guard being in the way on a last-second inbound. We can bitch all day about it being a bad call, but to say Wisconsin is ‘wrong’ for doing this, that’s flat out crazy. Western Kentucky fucked up, not Wisconsin. They had a guy guarding the inbound who did not see Davison waiting for him. That’s terrible court awareness. I’m not faulting Wisconsin here.
Now the officials are another story. They should have left this call alone, but they can’t help themselves. Like a fat kid who sees a cookie, refs are going to make every call they deem possible. It’s ruined college basketball. It’s not a fun game anymore. The fact they think their whistles should decide the final play is offensive. I get calling a foul when it’s obvious, but they should have thought a little bit more about the situation before blowing the whistle. It’s a shame a game has to end on that type of play.
