Giannis Will Not Pull a KD & Join Miami in 2021
Another day, another Giannis Antetokounmpo rumor to go over here on the website. It is fun to keep shooting down rumors. The recent rumors with Antetokounmpo are that the Miami Heat are going to go ‘all-in’ for the Greek Freak. This is not a surprise, and we can add Miami to the list of teams that want Antetokounmpo in 2021 joining Dallas in the mix. The only thing we’re missing is some report from another reporter, maybe Chris Haynes, saying that Golden State wants Antetokounmpo. Let’s break down why Miami beating Milwaukee and making the NBA Finals cost them a chance at Antetokounmpo.
That sounds like a wild take, but hear me out. Giannis is not a front-runner. That is not really what he wants to do. If anyone paid attention to some of the comments post-Bucks loss, Giannis said he didn’t want a super team. That is not what Antetokounmpo wants to do, he wants to do it his own way and not join up with a team that beat him in the postseason. Now, Miami isn’t the favorite heading into this season, but still, if Giannis joined the Heat, this is exactly what everyone will say. “Oh, he pulled a Kevin Durant.” That’s not what Antetokounmpo wants to do.
There is another factor that people do not consider when talking Giannis and the Heat is Jimmy Butler. Butler is the alpha dog on that team. That isn’t changing. Even if Giannis joins the team, Butler will be the Player A and assume that Giannis will be Player B. This is the same thing we talked with Luka Doncic when the Mavericks’ rumor came out. Jimmy isn’t going to bow to Giannis, and do we really think Giannis is okay being the second guy on this team?
The Heat culture, which might be as overrated as Spotted Cow, is something that Antetokounmpo would be into honestly. But what would be more Giannis’ speed is building his own version of it in Milwaukee.
