Happy 414 Day, We’re Changing Your Cheers Tradition
People get outraged all of the time. Something very small can send off a tidal wave of negative reaction. Most of the time, it’s ridiculous to let the small stuff like that consume your day-to-day life. I, for one, have zero idea how the always outraged people like their lives. That said, OnMilwaukee.com thought it would be a good idea to change the traditional German cheers of ‘Prost’ to ‘414, Let’s Have One More!’ Mayor Tom Barrett is talking about today in honor of 414 day. This is the single worst idea I have heard in quite some time.

First question, who the fuck is asking to change ‘Prost!’? Did people come through an say it’s an approration of German culture so it needed to be more generic? Like why would you think this is a good idea. The whole reason Milwaukee is a city is due to the German immigrants who settled this land and started brewing beer. Guess what they cheers with? You got it, ‘Prost!’ To take away that piece of Milwaukee history on 414 Day which has become a marketing thing is absurd and sad really.
Guess also too if we are changing the German tradition, I have to tell my friend ShayKenn who says ‘Salut’ in honor of the Italian cheers that it’s no longer good instead ‘414, Let’s Have One More.’ And all of my Polish friends, I have to inform them that ‘Na zdrowie’ is not appropriate any more. I understand OnMilwaukee wanted to do something fun, but this is a spit in the face of the traditional toasts that place all over this great city.
Happy 414 Day, y’all. I’m happy Pabst is a thing again and I’ll always say Prost.
