Indiana’s Impossible Paul George Decision
The NBA blew up. Like things went completely crazy in a matter of days after the NBA Finals ended. We had maybe a two or three day grace period. There is so much to discuss and we’ll do our best to cover it all. NBA is going through an era that we haven’t seen before where at this moment, it’s two teams then everyone else yet that could be changing soon. This week is a big chess board. We already saw one draft piece move, and now we wait on other big name players starting with Paul George. Pacers forward declared he will not re-sign with the team after this season and has a desire to play in Los Angeles after 2018.
This is a mess for Indiana. George declares where he wants to play giving his team no leverage for a trade to be made this week. Indiana’s asking price for the Pacers star is sky high reportedly which is a problem. While you don’t want to give away a superstar for free, you might as well try to see what you can get from a team before he bounces to Los Angeles. Blow the whole thing up and begin anew with young talented players.
Indiana understands that taking a weak trade would piss off your fans, but if you were able to snag a late lottery pick for George to a team who might talked themselves into him signing as a free agent then you’re golden. There’s no way Lakers are going to trade for him at this point. They do not need him. Further, Indiana should stay away from Cleveland unless Kyrie is coming back. That’s too expensive for a guy of George’s caliber, but Kevin Love, who is great player, will not lead you back from a rebuild.
George is one of the many pieces we could see move before the NBA Draft. This week is already legendary, and it’s only getting better.
