Jamaal Williams Broke Sacred BYU Honor Code (Gasp)
News came out yesterday from ESPN reporter Rob Demovsky about Green Bay lack of concern for Jamaal Williams’ honor code violation at BYU. If you followed me for awhile, you know I use to clown the honor code more than most people. So when I learned Packers new running back is an honor code violator, that warms my heart. Packers were obviously not worried about it because Williams was acting like a human being does in college.
Williams did things that a normal college kid would do on a weekend. He got caught drinking whilst underage leading to a suspension. And he got kicked off campus for a year for having sex with a girl. These things cannot happen at the Mormon institution. I’m not trying to shit on people who think it’s some rite of passage to not have college fun on campus, but I will forever think this is ridiculous. I do not believe it allows for children to let their hair down and be their own adult for four to five years. The fact someone would think Packers had issue with this is one looking for drama at every corner.
All this being said, Williams seems to be down with the code and learned from it. Former Packers beat writer, now Bleacher Report feature writer, Tyler Dunne, wrote an excellent piece on Williams, and what he did leading up to the draft. Williams wants to model his game after Walter Payton. That should basically leave you very tingly. But it’s a really good story about how this kid went through some growing pains to be the man that he is today.
Can’t wait to see Williams on the field.
