Marcedes Lewis Highlights Messy Packers Relationship
Apparently, the Pittsburgh Steelers couldn’t have all of the offseason drama. Packers needed a chunk too. We rarely see any news come of Lambeau as they keep things on lock, but nobody told Marcedes Lewis. The soon-to-be free agent tight end gave some drama to Yahoo! Sports yesterday explaining the complicated relationship between Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers. The comments from Lewis paint Rodgers in a bad light. The haters are going to grow with Rodgers, and it clearly shows a change was needed. Here’s what Lewis said to Yahoo!
“One time I really saw it for the first time, we were in the huddle. I guess McCarthy called in a play, and Aaron was kind of like, ‘Nah,’ ” Lewis said. “He gave a direction and a protection to the line, and went. It was a four-minute offense, he threw a 40-yard bomb for a completion. I’m like, ‘What’s really going on?’ I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life.”
Trust me, Lewis isn’t going to be the only one who comes out and talks about the Packers dysfunction if they’re leaving the team. I doubt a player like Clay Matthews or Randall Cobb would spill secrets because they have enough respect for the Packers, but a guy like Lewis who is a one-year guy with no interest in returning, all bets are off.
The timing of Lewis’ comments are not great considering Green Bay is looking for a head coach. Could this comment scare someone aware? I highly doubt it. At the end of the day, there’s still something about coaching the Green Bay Packers. Not many coaches can say they’ve done that. You’re still coaching Aaron Rodgers. If you hear he had issues like this with McCarthy, find out where it happened and let Rodgers vent forever to figure out why it happened with the coach before. Then, Rodgers and the new coach should work to rebuild that relationship and trust.
