Marquette & Bucks Keep Special Milwaukee Bond
An announcement was made on Tuesday that Marquette Basketball will have a seven-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks to play home in their new stadium starting next season. This is great news for all parties involved. At different points of negotiating, there were some rumors of frigid talks on each side of the aisle, therefore, it’s refreshing to see everyone come together as this will be a huge opportunity for Marquette along with the Bucks.

Marquette would not have anywhere to go if Bucks told them ‘no thanks.’ Instead, Golden Eagles will head to a brand new arena next season that Steve Wojciechowski can leverage as a recruiting tool. There’s an allure to playing in an NBA arena for your home games as is, then add the fact, it’s a brand new venue with certain amenities that other teams cannot offer when going through the recruiting process. As a team, Marquette will get state-of-the-art facilities to them on gameday, and their fans benefit from getting to see Bucks arena through a college lens.
Bucks having college basketball at their new arena is a good thing. They want to be filling that place up on a regular basis. My guess is there will not be many off nights for that arena when it’s up and running. With it being brand new, there may be some thought for Marquette to host a high-profile team or two in the non-conference. I also think you will see two other college basketball things – Milwaukee getting an NCAA Regional which they haven’t had in the state since Madison in the late 90’s/early 00’s and Wisconsin will play a non-Marquette marquee home game there at least once. Obviously, Bucks are going to cash in on the revenue as well.
This is a fun partnership Bucks and Marquette had throughout the years. No one really thought these two would break apart, but it’s good to see them come together.
