Marquette Lands Two Transfers This Weekend.
Marquette Golden Eagles find a way to keep making themselves better. You have to appreciate this team’s willingness to add talented players. Marquette did that twice this weekend with netting grad transfer Joseph Chartouny from Fordham, and transfer Koby McEwen from Utah State. Golden Eagles are done with scholarships this season, but they have some talented roster for this season and beyond. These two guys are only going to make things better. Chartouny for this season, and McEwen in the coming years. If it wasn’t obvious already, Marquette is in true put up or shut up mode this season.
When watching Michigan this season where the Wolverines completely fixed their defense problem, I thought how could Marquette do the same? Do they need a defensive mastermind like the Wolverines did? I wasn’t sure. But a guy like Chartouny adds an element that Marquette has been missing for the entire time that Steve Wojciechowski has been there. Chartouny is a goddamn stud as a passer and defender. That’s an exciting combination that Marquette desparately needed for next season. He also is 6’3 and will put some size out of the perimeter. It’s going to be a fucking joy to watch him find Markus Howard and Sam Hauser for easy buckets.
As for McEwen, he will get a year to practice with the team, and that worked for some of the Marquette transfer. He had a dynamic freshman year and fell off badly in the second year. McEwen went through a sophomore slump in a way and had a major issue with turnovers That problem needs to be figured out before he steps on the court for Marquette in two years. That said, McEwen gets buckets and will find a way to keep fill up the tin. This is something we’ve seen out of other Marquette transfers. He also isn’t much of a defender which means Marquette could be back to their poor perimeter defensive ways. But we’ll worry about that at a later date.
It’s an exciting time to be a Marquette fan, and let’s hope this is the start of something really special.
