Martellus Bennett Misses The Point With Aaron Rodgers

For those who forgot, Aaron Rodgers and Martellus Bennett have a longstanding beef. They do not like each other. It stems from Bennett’s departure with the Packers. He spoke out against Dr. Pat McKenzie, the well-respected doctor of the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers came to McKenzie’s defense. Bennett has been vocal against Rodgers ever since. It’s not surprising that the former Packers’ tight end did not buy into Rodgers’ Instagram post calling for unity and for people to listen. Bennett posted a screenshot of what Rodgers said and this could be one of the greatest reaches I’ve seen in a long time.
Aaron Rodgers “THEY have a battle for racial equality. That’s what THEY’RE trying to get a conversation started around.” Doesn’t sound like an ally sounds like a spectator. pic.twitter.com/kZQNyEkWMY

This is a pure, unfiltered nitpick by Bennett. Rodgers used the word ‘they’ which to Bennett inferred that he didn’t want part of helping out. If Rodgers used ‘we’ there, does he get slammed? Isn’t there commentary the next day with ‘What does Rodgers know about being black in America?’ ‘How dare he puts himself in that conversation?’ This is like seeing an instant replay and finding an open receiver without understanding what else is going on here. Rodgers using ‘They’ was not code for ‘Keep me the fuck out of this’, rather, he showed support for his teammates, like Bennett, protesting at the time.
Let’s also be clear that Rodgers isn’t trying to be a ‘white savior.’ That is not what the Packers quarterback is doing. If you think that’s the case, it’s your own bias about the man coming forward. What Rodgers did yesterday was to show he has his teammates’ back. Just like he did a few years ago when things were at a fever pitch. It is disappointing that Bennett lets his rivalry with Rodgers carry over to petty bullshit.
