Michigan State is Running Out of Running Backs
I didn’t realize this but we have a Wisconsin vs. Michigan weekend. Wisconsin Badgers play Michigan State on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium. Then on Monday, Green Bay Packers welcome the Detroit Lions. As a fan of both teams, I hope Wisconsin teams can go 2-0. Michigan State is trying to bounce back from its first Big Ten loss of the season. They fell to Ohio State last week. It will not be easy against Wisconsin. Things are getting more difficult as they have only three running backs left on their roster as one of their running backs decided to transfer.
So Elijah Collins, Anthony Williams and Brandon Wright are the three scholarship running backs on the roster. Walk-on Alante Thomas has gotten some action in mop-up duty. Former RB Weston Bridges moved to WR after spring ball. Wonder if he’ll move back.

That is not good for a team like Michigan State. They want to run the football. They’re not a run-and-gun team. Michigan State can still win football games with the lack of running backs, but what happened if one of them gets hurt? Things become very bleak, very quick. Spartans having Brian Lewerke to be the guy is exactly what Wisconsin wants to happen in this game. Lewerke is an average quarterback at best and if he’s throwing the ball 25+ times, Sparty will be in trouble against Wisconsin.
