Need the Packers to Draft Quenton Nelson
There are certain players in an NFL Draft that are cant-miss, and everyone knows it. Still due to their position or not filling a need, they fall down a draft board then three years later, people go back and say ‘Wow, he was the best player in the draft.’ Case in point, Quenton Nelson of Notre Dame, a dominating offensive guard, who is drawing comparisons to Larry Allen. He should go in the top five of the NFL Draft, but due to his position, he could fall all the way to the Green Bay Packers at number 14. Packers need to draft Nelson if he’s anywhere close to 14. He’s that good of an offensive lineman.
Even though many people are focused on an edge rusher or a cornerback, Packers still need a right guard. Sure, that’s not a position you draft with your first round pick, but Nelson is a once-in-a-lifetime guard. You’re drafting a guy who can be your left guard for the next 15 years and start day one of Training Camp. Although, I’d like to see them trade up in round 1 or round 2 to address some other needs if they go guard. Part of me feels like this is a pipe dream. As much as I want to think Nelson could tumble, there’s going to be a team who drafts Nelson in the late top 10. Offensive line issues are rampant in the National Football League. A team who needs help there would be stupid not to take him. If they’re worried about what the fans may think then they’re already losing the draft.
I’d love to see the Packers Pinhead Nation react to this one. It would be glorious to watch all these know-nothing radio callers act like they understand offensive line play. THey would freak the fuck out and make Gutekunst enemy number one. It would be an amazing thing to watch. The only thing that would get them going more than drafting a lineman early on is trading out of the 14th spot for additional picks. That might be the ultimate pinhead fury if that were to actually happen.
