One Football Writer’s Obsession with Ty Montgomery’s Number
Ty Montgomery wears number 88. For most of us, it’s not a big deal. It’s like anything else on the football field. You get the few Packers fans who always wonder if he’s going to change it to a ‘normal’ running back number. They call into the sports talk radio shows and usually sound drunk around 3:00 pm on a Wednesday (Not that there is anything wrong with that). Among the Packers’ fans with a drinking problem stands one writer, MMQB’s Andy Benoit, who believes that it’s a ‘competitive disadvantage’ that Montgomery gets to wear number 88. A paid professional thinks football players are too dumb to not understand that 88 is a running back.

This is the new narrative he’s going with these days. I find it funny that he’s saying the teams couldn’t understand that Montgomery is back there as a running back. I mean if this is the first year of him doing it, sure. But it’s like year three, I’m pretty sure people know who the fuck he is at this point. It’s not some random geek off the streets, although, this isn’t a new thing for Benoit. It started a year ago where Benoit spent part of the offseason mad about this.
Really hope NFL wouldn't allow Ty Montgomery to keep # 88. One of 1,243 reasons NFL > college Fball: jersey numbers correlate to position.

Benoit changed his tune since 2017. He needed a new angle after the NFL let Montgomery have 88, therefore, he changed to it being a competitive disadvantage. But in reality, it’s just a privileged man who is throwing a temper tantrum because he didn’t get his way.
