Pacers ‘City’ Kit Looks Too Much Like Marquette
Some things shouldn’t get under my skin, but they do. It’s part of life. Looking through all of the ‘city’ uniforms, thanks to the people at Sports Logos, Indiana Pacers’ new uniform grinded my gears a little bit. It looks so much like the iconic Marquette uniforms from the late 60’s-early 70’s. At first, I thought it was a direct replica, but after doing some research, they flipped the stripe to the other side yet it’s truly very close in distinction. Huge shoutout to Conrad Burry for putting these all together.
Here’s the thing, Marquette is loosely part of Nike with being part of the Jordan brand, so when concepting uniforms, I’m guessing they had a gander at the then Warriors kits. Because these uniforms are not part of Indiana’s uniform history. If you look back through the years, Pacers did do a similar stripe yet it went from left to right across the chest of the uniform. All of this makes it more disappointing they’d chose to invoke a classic like Marquette’s uniforms. They’re considered in very high regard from the people who dabble in uniform history for the Golden Eagles.
If there was ever a time for a good troll from Marquette’s social media accounts, one may be needed today.
