PackCap: Aaron Jones Helps Packers Destroy Dallas
When Dallas and Green Bay got together for their rivalry game that happens more often than not with their schedule. This time around with both teams at 3-1, people saw this as a barometer to determine how good these teams were in the landscape of the NFL. Green Bay Packers appear to be a very good football team. The jury is out on the Cowboys. Packers dominated this football game jumping out to a 31-3 lead and held on for a 34-24 win. Aaron Jones led the way with a massive game that further cemented his place as a top running back in the league.
Player of the Game: Aaron Jones – What a game for Jones. He rushed for 107 yards with 75 receiving yards finishing with 182 all-purpose yards. Jones was the guy on the Packers offense with Davante Adams out with an injury. The Packers running back had four rushing touchdowns. That is something that hasn’t happened in decades. Even three touchdowns by a running back are very rare for the Packers. Ahman Green in 2002 is the last running back to score three rushing touchdowns.
Honorable Mention: Kevin King – After a rough game in Week 3, King continues to build a strong campaign other than that. King probably had the best game of his career. King did not exactly lockdown Michael Gallup but he had some major plays in this one. He had two pass breakups, one interception and one dropped pick. Some gave King a hard time about how he shed Gallup at the end, but that’s football, baby. The physical nature of King is truly special.
The Thing I Liked: Rodgers Didn’t Need To Do Much – Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers mentioned this after the game, but it is worth noting here too. Rodgers did not have a touchdown. He did not throw for over 300 yards. He only missed 12 throws all game. But the Packers didn’t need Rodgers to win this football game. That’s crazy to think about. There are few games in his career where that’s happened. I loved Rodgers saying that he doesn’t care about the stat line.
The Thing I Don’t Like: Packers came close to making this uncomfortable – Here’s the thing, Dallas is a good team. They’re not going to get blown out often, and if they do, they’ll likely try to mount a comeback. They’re too good not to thus why the Cowboys started to mount a small comeback. They never got it to a one-score game though. Packers got a little lucky here and things got a little tight yet Packers did just enough to keep Packers ahead by a reasonable margin.
Next up: Packers will head back home for a Monday Night showdown against the Detroit Lions. This is their third division opponent in six weeks. If the Packers win this game, they’re 3-0 versus the division through their first time through it. Detroit has given Green Bay fits in the last two weeks. The last time Lions beat the Packers five straight games in the early 1950s. Green Bay deserves some payback here, and it would be awesome to see them deliver the boom next week.
