PackCap: Red-Hot Rodgers Torches Vikings
The questions about Aaron Rodgers were all over the place before the season started. Is Rodgers washed up? Does Rodgers even care any more? Will Rodgers and Matt LaFleur’s relationship start to head south? Everyone and their mother called the Packers ‘frauds’ for winning 13 games last season as well. What did Green Bay do to start their season? Picture Rodgers doing the DX ‘Suck It’ sign to everyone and that’s your answer. Packers dominated the Minnesota Vikings, 43-34, in a score that looks much closer than it actually was. Packers win their opener for the sixth straight year.
Player of the Game: Aaron Rodgers – This is a no-brainer. The guy is in the headline. He deserves to win POG. It is hard to remember a game this good from Rodgers in recent years. He was firing on all cylinders. Maybe the Dallas game in 2017 right before he got hurt? Even then, Rodgers didn’t seem to be this focused. FOX’s Brock Huard talked about his ‘balance’ and being set which you wouldn’t pick up unless he said something, but Rodgers never seemed to be hurried today. This is a statement game for him. I’m still here, motherfuckers, and you’re all in trouble. Rodgers finished with 364 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Honorable Mention: Davante Adams – While Jaire Alexander made a push, this belongs to Tae. Rodgers has the ‘Jordy Nelson-like’ relationship with Adams, and it was no surprise that Rodgers kept feeding him the ball. Vikings’ young corners got baptized like some kids at Catholic Mass in Spring. Adams finished the game with 156 yards and 14 catches with two touchdowns.
One Thing To Like: Matt LaFleur’s offense was cooking – If LaFleur went up against Bobby Flay in Beat Bobby Flay, he would have definitely won with his Vikings recipe. Good lord. They punted the ball once. Sure, they did not get in the end zone a couple of times, but you do realize that Green Bay could have scored upwards of 50 or 60 points against one of the supposed good defenses in the NFL? LaFleur year two felt like something people slept on all offseason when they were shitting on the Packers’ chances. It’s real and spectacular.
One Thing To Dislike: Defense did not show up in the same way – Rough start for Mike Pettine’s defense. They give up 34 points and it all seemed too easy for Minnesota. Green Bay will need to work on what they do with leads because playing lazy prevent isn’t helping things. Green Bay needed to keep their pressure turned up and that lacked in certain parts of the second half.
Packers Highlight of the Day: This throw is absolutely bananas. If you want to know if Rodgers is back, look no further than this video.

Next up: Another division opponent for Green Bay with Detroit. They’re going to come in pissed off for two reasons. One, they blew a 17+ lead in the fourth quarter to lose to Chicago. Two, they were ‘robbed’ the last time they played Green Bay at Lambeau. The last few Lions-Packers matchups have been tight, so, it’s hard to picture it being any different.
