Packers Finally End Ties With Letroy Guion
It’s about time. Green Bay Packers finally announced today that they are parting ways with Letroy Guion. It’s amazing that it took this long for Green Bay to rid themselves of the defensive tackle problem child who refuses to grow up. I’m not sure why Guion lasted this long, but he did. For Packers, the former Florida State defensive tackle had a weird, strange career with Green Bay. The questions do remain though for Green Bay – Why now and why did no one explain what happened from Packers front office on Tuesday?
The why now part is a great question. Guion does have a four-game suspension currently with the NFL. But Packers knew that headed into the season, and they still put him as a part of the training camp roster. The only thing I can think of are Packers are very unimpressed with what they’ve seen for the first couple weeks, and he is dead weight on the team. Or NFL is coming with a further suspension, which would also make him useless for the team.
I do think Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson working their press conferences around this release is shit. This isn’t a practice squad player, rather, a key contributor for Packers defense in the last few years. My guess is the coach and general manager did not want the players to react to the news if it came out whilst they were still on the practice field. If that’s the case I’ll save my outrage.
Guion made some plays, but I’m happy he’s gone.
