Packers Should Be A Top NFL Chip On Their Shoulder Team

Green Bay Packers should have a chip on their shoulder to start the season. NFL.com’s Marc Sessler came up with a list of NFL teams that have a chip on their shoulder next season, and the Packers didn’t make the list. Instead, the likes of New England, Baltimore, New Orleans all made the list. Those are worthy candidates too. But if I may, let me build the case for why the Packers should be considered a chip on their shoulder team for the 2020 NFL season.
Let’s start with the obvious. The Packers are out to prove they’re more than a one-hit-wonder. The term ‘fluke’ will be going around with the Packers all summer. Just watch. People will claim that the Packers succeeded only once and wonder if head coach Matt LaFleur is putting the team in the right direction. The draft only raised more questions about the Packers’ future in some people’s eyes. People will gas up the Minnesota Vikings, maybe the Chicago Bears, and one writer will think it is cute to hype up Detroit. This chip isn’t manmade. Rather, it is part of the larger Aaron Rodgers story.
The king of chips on their shoulder is Rodgers. He loves nothing more than a good chip. Jordan Love arrives in Green Bay this summer, and people will make a big deal about it. Is it a big deal? Probably not. Will Rodgers have a chip on his shoulder about the Packers bringing in his replacement? Yes, absolutely. The chip is real, and he likely comes out with a vengeance in Fall 2020. I can see headlines in October about a ‘new-look’ Rodgers and a ‘refocused’ Rodgers. All of that is going to happen. The king of the COTS hasn’t actually had a chip in years, maybe since 2015. The chip is here again.
Let’s get ready to see those chips get big and power us to Tampa Bay.
Charlie.
