Did Rodgers Finally Figure Out Zimmer’s D?
Aaron Rodgers spoke to the media yesterday about the Minnesota Vikings defense, and the head coach Mike Zimmer. If there has been one team to get in the way of Rodgers having successful days through the air, it’s Zimmer’s defense out of Minnesota. But let’s not forget Christmas Eve in Lambeau Field where Rodgers went bananas for 347 yards and four touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 136. All numbers were career-highs for the Packers quarterback versus Zimmer’s defense. Is that game an outlier or a prelude to what’s to come?
Some might think this was a one-time thing, and it will not happen again for Rodgers. Even though Minnesota had a bunch of their regular players, they were a mess of a team at the end of last season. Vikings had lost 7 of 9 since starting 5-0, and they missed the playoffs after being hyped for the Super Bowl around this time last season. Rodgers took advantage of a team who may have quit a little bit. Sunday’s game features a chance for the Vikings to take over first place in the division, it’s going to be a little different.
Regardless of that, Green Bay’s offense had to feel good to finally break through against Zimmer’s vaunted defense. Rodgers did not have a good game at U.S. Bank Stadium last season, but he’s usually been pretty good on a fast turf. Packers offense has been stellar to start the season. They are one of the best teams in the league on third down, and the best team in the red zone. It’s hard to be beat when you’re doing those things right. Rodgers would love to have his full offensive line back though for this one because Minnesota’s pass rushers are no joke, and it could be a long day even for the admirable Lane Taylor at left tackle.
We’ll see who wins this round of Rodgers versus Zimmer.
