All SEC Final Doesn’t Dilute College Football’s Great Year
SEC will be the highlight of the National Championship game. Is it annoying? Yes. Do we have to do a week of hearing about how the SEC is a great conference? Yes, that’s sad because it’s simply untrue. Georgia and Alabama absolutely deserved to be in the College Football Playoff. Same with Oklahoma. The only one who looked out of place was Clemson honestly. There were many great teams this season including Ohio State, UCF, Penn State and Wisconsin. Just because the two finishers are from the SEC, it doesn’t take away from these other teams.
It’s totally different than the Alabama-LSU national championship in 2011. Those two teams meet every year, and it’s a regular game between the two rival schools. Georgia-Alabama have met six times since 1996. That’s not a lot. These two have been known to play classics as well, so, it wouldn’t be surprising if we go one in Mercedes Benz Stadium next Monday night. The storylines will be endless with Kirby Smart going up against Alabama in a mentor versus student matchup. How will Sony Michel and Nick Chubb do versus the Alabama run defense? Can Raquon Smith slow down the Bama rushing attack? Can Jake Fromm handle the pressure of delivering Georgia its first title since the early 80’s?
I didn’t want an SEC final when Georgia beat Oklahoma, and Alabama went up 10-0 early, yet the more I’ve gotten used to the idea of it with an excitement for what might happen between these two teams. If you look at it by teams versus conference, it makes your life easier and leaves you without the opportunity to these sort of pissing contests about conferences. Let others in the digital space handle those things.
Bring on the SEC and bring on the Tide and Dawgs.
