SnotapWI Star Ratings: Green Bay Steps Up When It Matters The Most
Star ratings are easy when the Packers are good and they dominate the football game. Usually, there are one or two bad players in the game. It is also easy when the Packers are bad and they suck all game. There is one shining star in a pile of shit. It becomes very difficult when Green Bay wins a game, but they do not typically play well in the game hence this one against Jacksonville. When thinking through who I want to feature in this one as well as some other things noticed in the game, it became clear. Here are this week’s star ratings.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling – Look, MVS is having a better season than you think. We all want to give him shit. We all have a bad tweet about him. But the facts are facts and MVS is having a good season. There are a couple of facts about MVS this season. Fact one, he has more yards than last season already, and with one more good game, he will eclipse his rookie year. Fact two, he is already at his career touchdown total at four. Fact three, he leads the league in yards per reception. MVS is having a decent season aside from the drops. But the drops are an issue. Make no mistake about it.
Rashan Gary – It’s starting to have a real conversation about Rashan Gary. Gary ended up with seven pressures. That was the best out of any EDGE rusher for Green Bay. He was dominant late in the game when Green Bay needed a pass rush. There needs to be more Gary on the field. He is having a good season. And now it’s time for him to get more snaps out there especially considering how Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith have struggled at certain points of the season.
THREE and a HALF STARS
Aaron Rodgers – People are going to ignore Rodgers’ performance like they do every time. Rodgers isn’t exciting anymore for people. He should be in the MVP conversation and somehow, he isn’t. The interception was awful. Don’t get me wrong. But Russell Wilson was horrific yet again with turnovers this week. Rodgers finished with 325 yards with only 10 incompletions and two touchdowns plus rushed one in. Considering the conditions, this is a strong performance for Rodgers and co.
Mike Pettine’s soft-ass zone – Part of me is convinced that the Packers dominate this football game if one of Kevin King or Jaire Alexander plays on Sunday. The reason why is Mike Pettine would have actually played man instead of playing zone all game long. The zone defense was to protect all of the young corners which kept Jacksonville in the game. If they play man on Jake Luton, it’s a dominating Packers win.
Time to make Lambeau a homefield advantage again – This seems to be the biggest theme for Green Bay after this game. There wasn’t the juice. How will Green Bay find it? Who knows. The fact that Green Bay isn’t doing a lot of the in-game stuff without the fans is surprising, and it weirdly seems to be affecting the Packers. Let’s get more ‘ITS THIRD DOWN!” Fuck it, just pretend their fans in the stands. Something needs to change against Chicago in two weeks.
