Star Ratings: Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks
Green Bay Packers continue to find a way to win games. This has been such a good season. It might not be the most exciting version of the Packers, but weirdly, this has been so rewarding as a Packers fan. When you’re not the best team, there is an underdog mentality and admiration with what these guys are doing. Green Bay wins its 14th game of the season, and now, they have a chance to get their fifth Super Bowl. They’ve knocked on the door a few times in Aaron Rodgers’ career, and let’s hope he can kick it in.
Davante Adams – What a game from Tae. People do not give him credit for him being a top-five wide receiver, but he is one. When it comes to wide receivers this weekend, did anyone have a better weekend than Tae? He had eight catches for 160 yards with two touchdowns. Adams abused the Seattle Seahawks corners all night long. This is a great season for Davante despite missing four games, and he continued it last night.
Honorable Mention: Aaron Rodgers, Jared Veldheer. We talked about both on the PackCap earlier.
Smith Bros – It is sort of funny when you look at both their stat lines from this one. Preston Smith had four tackles, two sacks, and four quarterback hits. Za’Darius Smith had four tackles, two sacks, and four quarterback hits. They did a great job frustrating Russell Wilson all game long. Preston Smith had the biggest sack of the game late in the fourth quarter. These guys did not show any rust.
Jimmy Graham – What a game from Jimmy! He had three catches for 49 yards but they all came on third down. We have all given Jimmy a lot of shit this year and for good reason. He is not the same player a few years ago. But for him to find a way to make big, in-traffic grabs on third down was awesome to see out of him. Rodgers seemed to be very pleased that Graham found a way to be a factor.
Kevin King – Credit where credit is due with what Kevin King did against D.K. Metcalf. He had four catches 59 yards and didn’t do much in this one. After Metcalf went off in the Wild Card, he did not do much. King could have come down with an interception early in this one but it went right off his hands. No one has got more three-star honors from me than King. That feels like his spot every time out.
Blake Martinez – I wouldn’t say that Blake had a bad game, but he looks so lost in coverage. Green Bay plays all of these soft zones which is a major issue I’ve had with the team all season. Part of the reason why the zone doesn’t work is Blake Martinez. He is too slow to be in coverage with the speed of today’s NFL.
Complaints about the final spot – Just shut up. People think that the yellow line is the answer to everything. It is not. People saying “Refs gave the Packers the game” are fucking stupid and you shouldn’t take them seriously. Just remember the Packers should have got the ball right away in the first quarter on a fumble by Jacob Hollister. That didn’t happen and changed the complexity of the first quarter.
It’s on to San Francisco.
