The Return of Mike McCarthy in the NFL Has Begun
Mike McCarthy is likely going to be back in the National Football League next season. Judging by some comments by the media, the NFL might buck the trend of the young guns. It didn’t work out for any teams besides the Green Bay Packers. It was a bust in Arizona and didn’t work out too well in Cincinnati. This is setting up perfectly for the former head coach of the Packers. McCarthy will likely be a contender to be a top candidate with the Carolina Panthers and if New York Giants move on, he will be a top candidate too.
People are connecting the dots with Carolina’s owner David Tepper and McCarthy. Tepper is a Pittsburgh native and has deep roots in the city. Unsure if Tepper and McCarthy have a relationship, but my guess is those guys have a similar personality. With the coach’s experience being building up quarterbacks, McCarthy working with a young Kyle Allen. Odds are they’re going to move on from Cam Newton. I cannot see McCarthy and Newton working together yet crazier things have happened. Also if you like storylines, Carolina comes to Green Bay next season which probably will find itself on primetime.
Giants’ beat writers are starting to throw dirt on the Pat Schrumr era, and McCarthy is seen favorable there as well. While he might not seem like a New York guy, McCarthy was ready to take the New York Jets job if offered to him last season. Daniel Jones isn’t exactly Sam Darnold, but it is a young quarterback for him to work with in the future. Even though Mac is willing to be a coach of a New York football team, I’m not sure he can handle the New York media.
I want McCarthy back in football for pure curiosity. I’m curious to see how he will do with another team, another quarterback. And I truly believe if Cleveland hired him that the Browns are two or three wins better than they are right now.
