Thon Maker Deserved Better from Bucks Fans
Booing is an interesting practice by sports fans. Boos are common when a player returns to a team he spurned in free agency, or boos happen when a player did something wrong to your star player. But sometimes, fans boo at the weirdest times. Case in point, Sunday’s Bucks game where the fans took upon themselves to boo former Bucks center Thon Maker. This caught the Milwaukee media by surprise considering how much Maker loved the city and loved his time here in Milwaukee. They were not wrong. The move was an interesting one and one that shouldn’t have happened from Bucks fans.
The Milwaukee crowd were booing Thon Maker on his return tonight. I asked Thon after the game if he heard and his face was truly shocked by the reaction of Bucks fans. pic.twitter.com/r4Ao1Xtlbd

This is not me being sensitive. Rather, I’m pointing out that was really no reason to boo him. He basically grew up in Milwaukee over those four years. The trade request news was more an agent thing than a player thing. Thon listened to the wrong people who led him astray. I am personally over the trade request thing. He did commit a hard foul on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the first half which warranted people booing at him. That’s an entirely different conversation. He went after the star player with a bush league foul. That should always get a reaction from the crowd, and if does not, you’re doing things wrong. Same goes for Andre Drummond who will likely get a warm reception on Wednesday night.
We’ll see if Maker gets the same sort of treatment in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
