Trevor Davis Hype Train – Are You On Board?
There are always training camp and minicamp all-stars in the National Football League. Usually, these players are playing against the second and third teams of the team they’re on. Also, these players tend to be undrafted rookies or a street free agent the team picked up for nothing. In the case of the Green Bay Packers, the guy who has been consistently getting the most hype this Spring has been Trevor Davis. The Packers return man has apparently made great strides in the offseason to become more than just a returner. Could we see a breakout year from the former sixth-rounder draft pick?
Due to Davante Adams having a lingering injury, Davis received the opportunity to get first-team reps with the Packers, and from all reports, he took advantage of those opportunities. Davis is a dynamic receiver who could be a terror in the slot if he was able to use his speed as a weapon. The draft profile for Davis mentioned that he needed to work on his underneath speed to be a threat for a team. Davis is a home-run hitter with the ability to outrun almost anyone, but where he could really make a killing is the slot.
The former Cal receiver deserves a ton of credit for his offseason workouts, too. Davis knew that he could be on the chopping block this summer with Green Bay having a bevy of receiving options, and Davis made himself a factor in the first few camps of the season. It helps to have a new coaching staff, but you have to impress those guys to make your presence felt. That did happen with his position coach mentioning him unprovoked as well as Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. It is very early, but Davis is making his way to being a third or fourth receiver on the depth chart right now. That’s not something I think any of us thought would be a thing.
Lastly, Davis has to stay healthy. He dealt with many soft tissue injuries throughout his career especially last season where he missed most of the year with a hamstring issue. With how competitive the receivers room will be this season, Davis needs to keep working hard.
