What’s Next For SnoTapWI in 2020?
SnoTapWI has been around for nine years heading towards its 10th year in August. Some might think I would turn out the lights and move to something else. But that’s not happening. I see growth potential in SnoTapWI more than I have in other years. My passion for the site has never been stronger nor have I felt the ability for it to succeed at a high level.
I feel this could be a breakthrough year for the site if we play our cards right. It was a successful 2019 campaign with nearly doubling our pageviews, listening numbers through the roof and general awareness of the website grew as well. What that tells me is there is a group or groups of Packers, Badgers, Brewers Golden Eagles fans that want a voice that they could picture sitting next to them at a bar or a game. Informed but not going to make your brain hurt by reading our content. What’s next you might ask? Well, there are a few things up our sleeve.
1. More localized coverage for the City of Milwaukee and the State of Wisconsin – Not only do I want to give you somewhat spicy takes and analysis about our teams, but I also want to provide you with knowledge about the City of Milwaukee. Even if you don’t live here, my assumption is you follow us for sports here in Milwaukee or Wisconsin. What we can do more of is telling you more about what to do before and after games. Or some of the best places to watch games.
I hope to give you a better idea of what’s out there in the city. Which bars are great for watching sports? Which bars truly are not? Places to see before or after a game. Or knowing what to avoid on certain nights. I said it on the podcast, but I want to be a Milwaukee bar scene Sherpa to many of you. I’ve been going to the Milwaukee bar scene for the past eight years (YIKES!) and I know a thing or two. Additionally, I want you to use me in that way. Ask questions, reach out
With this local coverage, I’d love to connect with bar owners, restaurant owners, performers, small businesses that fit the Milwaukee sports fan lifestyle and could use additional awareness from SnoTapWI. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and can always slide in my DMs via the various social channels.
2. More of my beautiful face on video – My first love is video production. I did it when I was in college and haven’t done much since. Wisconsin’s Best and Worst will be on YouTube than on the site. It started on Instagram and will move towards YouTube. I’m going to start with that but there is a great chance for more. I don’t want to overpromise here, therefore, I’ll stop talking. Here’s our YouTube page. It’s fresh. It needs more content, but it will get there. SnoTapWI on YouTube
3. Analyzing the local media in ways we don’t typically see – One of my bigger regrets of doing this for so long is I’ve failed at breaking through with the Milwaukee media mafia. I know that the last m is a sensitive word, but it’s true. They keep that circle tight and rarely let any new people in despite a host of young men and women doing great things. I’m taking the gloves off with them when I feel it’s needed. There are so many things said that go virtually unchecked. Why?
Milwaukee is a small market and there’s a worry that if you offend someone, you’re screwed. Here’s the thing… I respect everyone and I’m not going to be mean. But it is entirely fair to call out something you see that makes no sense at all. You may remember Wisconsin’s Worst Take from the podcast, and it might be coming to blog form.
There will be other things too, and please understand that some of this will be trial and error. My goal is for everything that I cover to have some sort of sports angle to it. That’s a promise. And if there’s not one, you can tell me to stick to Wisconsin sports. I won’t roast you on social media, I promise.
Thanks for all the love, Tappers.
