Wisconsin-Northwestern Gets Canceled at Wrigley; Is Lambeau Next?

Wisconsin Badgers are preparing for a unique season in 2020. Obviously, we know about the COVID-19 concerns, but there were a few games that are not typically on the schedule. Wisconsin-Notre Dame were set to happen at Lambeau Field, and Wisconsin faced off against Northwestern at Wrigley Field. One of these neutral locations will not happen as they announced today that the Wrigley Field will not happen. Many are wondering if Lambeau Field’s neutral site location is next on the radar.
This year's Northwestern-Wisconsin game will not be played at Wrigley Field, as was scheduled.

The Wrigley Field move is an obvious one for Northwestern and the Chicago Cubs. If they’re not going to be able to have fans in the stands or at a limited amount, why fuck up Wrigley for a game? Therefore, they’re headed to Ryan Field which is a house of horrors for Wisconsin. This is an obvious disappointment. But it is not completely dead. Wisconsin is playing Northwestern in November in 2024. Set it up for 2024 as long as Wrigley is still standing in four years from now. There is no reason to completely shelf this idea. Wisconsin draws a huge fan base and also the idea of drunken Badgers fans in Wrigleyville sounds like a complete shitshow.
Now the eyes go towards Lambeau Field’s neutral site game. This is a major game on the college football schedule. Wisconsin and Notre Dame are two top programs, and Lambeau Field is an iconic place. If this goes out in the window if college football decides to go with conference-only model (Sounds like a podcast topic to me), it is a major disappointment. But similar to Wrigley Field, is it really worth playing if it is not a full stadium? I don’t think so.
If they move this game to 2022 or 2023, this is easy for Wisconsin likely. They have buy games against Illinois State, New Mexico State, Army that could be moved to later years. Norte Dame’s schedule is much tougher to work around. Fighting Irish does play Cal the same week that Wisconsin plays New Nexico State in 2022. It feels like an optimal date, and I’m sure Notre Dame would not have an issue finding a new opponent.
We’ll see what happens, but one thing I know, we’re headed to a brand new world very soon.
Charlie.
