Cardinals Should Forfeit Games If Taxi Squad Cannot Play
St. Louis Cardinals continue to not play baseball. Cardinals have only played five games all year and have a record of 2-3. There is no longer time for the Cardinals to wait and make up all of these games. They will not get to 60 games. Baseball will likely implement a rule that they’re choosing the playoffs off win percentage, but even that is an unfair advantage to a Cardinals team is not going to get the remaining 55 games in if this continues. They continue to have positive tests despite the work they’ve done. Now that St. Louis isn’t playing until the earliest Thursday. And that’s an important game because it is a makeup from the earlier Tigers game. If Cardinals cannot play, it should be a forfeit win for the Tigers.
At some point, the rubber has to meet the road for the Cardinals. We’re at this point. They’re eleven games behind some teams in baseball. That is absurd. To make up all of those games in a short period of time is impossible. Baseball doesn’t think outside the box, so, it is not surprising they’re dragging their feet on this. Baseball put a taxi squad in an alternate location for this very reason. Yet, they don’t want to use them because the Cardinals will look like one of the worst teams in the National. But that has to be the move for baseball by Thursday or St. Louis can choose to start forfeiting games.
Baseball can make the case that there are not enough days for Cardinals to play all of their games, and beer league softball rules apply, if you can’t play, the win goes to the other team. Some might think this is cruel, but it’s the Cardinals’ fucking fault as to why they’re in this mess. If Cardinals were exposed by another team, it is hard for me to make a case of forfeiture, but when St. Louis is directly responsible for what happened, it is hard to feel sympathy.
Baseball needs to make a hard decision with the series against Detriot and the White Sox series to follow. Let’s see how they handle this.
