Many people say that Spring Training means nothing in terms of the regular season. I would tend to agree for the most part. Remember Brooks Conrad? He tore up Spring Training for Brewers and made the roster before not registering a hit in the first six weeks of the season going 0-for-40. Some of the hot hitters might not be that way come April, and the slow starters might have just needed real life game competition. We still can find a few things that are worth talking about heading into the season which begins a week from today.

Jesus Aguliar – Spring Training stud or diamond in the rough?
The Conard theory could be applied to recently found slugger Jesus Aguliar who Milwaukee picked up off waivers from Cleveland. All this guy does is mash home runs with five of them this Spring along with 24 hits in 52 at-bats. Aguliar is making a push to be part of this 25-man roster, but it’s going to be tough after they gave Eric Thames all that money. Aguliar could still be a valued piece off the bench to give the team a little power in the late innings.

Wily Peralta back to his old ways?
Milwaukee’s pitching staff did not have the best Spring. This another situation where you don’t freak out, but if things get off to a rocky start, you can point to these things and say ‘Well maybe, this was going to happen.’ The one whose been awesome for the team is Wily Peralta. He threw in three games and had a .071 ERA for the month. Texas Rangers apparently have eyes on him, which would clear a path for Josh Hader to be a starter sooner

Ryan Braun thinks Spring Training is for losers
Good that Ryan Braun said what he did about Spring Training on the first Friday of the NCAA Tournament. Many people forgot about it or didn’t know it happened. Braun basically lambasted the idea of Spring Training and believed there needed to be a brand new process. Some fans may remember this and get on Braun if he struggles to begin the year, but recently, he’s been a hot starter.

Taylor Jungmann out of the bullpen is interesting
Not sure if he’s going to make the 25-man roster, but Taylor Jungmann making the switch to the bullpen is something I didn’t expect to see this Spring. He’s been pretty strong out of the pen with a 1.46 ERA along with 12 strikeouts in 11 games. More importantly for a guy like Jungmann, he only walked four batters thus far. Brewers bullpen is still an unknown and could use a piece like Jungmann.

Expectations set or nah?
So I’ll probably doing something a little longer at the end of the week to talk about how Brewers season could play out. I’ve stood by that this team could be frisky and end up winning 80 games with stories about how this team is ready for their big year in 2018. Nothing happened in Spring Training where I felt like that wouldn’t be a possibility.
