Markus Howard Is A Deserving Cousy Award Candidate

Markus Howard is a point guard… Technically. Howard is one by roster spot, but he plays more off the ball with Koby McEwen, Greg Elliott or Symir Torrence running the ‘point.’ Basketball is a positionless spot more than ever it has been before. Since Howard is the point guard, he was considered for the Cousy Award for the top point guard int he country. He is one of the five finalists for that award. And while ESPN doesn’t show him as much love as an ACC, Big 12, SEC player, college basketball knows what Howard is doing on a nightly basis. He isn’t just a complete scorer. There is more to his game, and there’s a chance he can win this award.

All of these candidates have a worthwhile shot at winning this thing. Trying to determine who will win this one is very tough. All have their teams in the tournament. Some might win their conferences, yet some aren’t in the best conferences in the country. This is not an easy selection by any means.
Howard’s stats might surprise you. Sure, he is the top scorer in the group. But he has the second-best turnover rate out of these five guys. Only Malachi Flynn of San Diego State has a better turnover rate than Howard. Most of the guards have a better assist rate, yet he is not the worst in that category either. With the scoring profile and the underrated assist and turnover numbers, there is a chance for the Marquette point guard.
