SnoTapWI Bracket Watch: UW & MU Are Going In Opposite Directions

This bracket watch should not be surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to college basketball over the last few weeks. Wisconsin keeps winning games, and Marquette keeps losing them. What happens when that occurs? You move up the bracket or you move down the bracket. Some Marquette fans think the Golden Eagles are on the bubble, yet, they forget that Marquette had a lock worthy resume before the collapse started plus the bubble, like most years, is very bad. Here’s where both teams stand at the time of posting.
Wisconsin Badgers
Right now, Bracket Matric puts Wisconsin as their lowest fifth seed checking in at 5.40. If Badgers win at Indiana and win one Big Tent tournament game, they should be a five. Say the Badgers continue their winning streak, they may be able to run it up to a four seed. Although, that is their ceiling in my opinion. Jerry Palm puts Badgers in Greensboro where they’ll await the winner of Utah State and Texas. Both teams are good matchups for UW. If they win, a Round 32 showdown with Duke would be looming. Badgers fans are still testy over the 2015 National Championship game. Sweet 16 location would be Los Angeles which has many memories for Wisconsin.
Remember when I said a four seed is their ceiling? ESPN’s Joe Lunardi already puts them there. He has been high on the Badgers all year, so, this doesn’t surprise me. He puts the Badgers in Tampa playing Stephen F. Austin. And if they win, a matchup with BYU would be there in Round Two. BYU’s style contrasts with Wisconsin and would not be an easy matchup. The sweet 16 location would be Indianapolis and likely showdown with Kansas.
Marquette Golden Eagles
Bracket Matrix puts Marquette on the eight-line with their total bracket matrix number at 7.84. A win against St. John’s could go a long way for the Golden Eagles. If Marquette continues to tumble, I could see them at the 10 line. And if they turn it around, a six seed isn’t out of the question. Despite the struggles, Palm puts Marquette as a seven seed playing Oklahoma in Greensboro. If they won, a rematch with Maryland would be on deck for Round 32. It’s hard to imagine Marquette in the Sweet 16, but if they did, Los Angeles is the destination, and they could either play Wisconsin or Duke (Eye emojis on a thousand).
Lunardi has the same matchup, but in St. Louis and if Golden Eagles won, they would face Louisville. Sign me up for that considering the past rivalry those two teams had in the Big East and C-USA. Lunardi also puts Marquette in the West region, but the opponent would likely be Michigan State.
A LOT will change over the next week or so. We’ll have one more before the bracket is out.
