The Giannis-Kidd-Lakers Rumor is Laughable At Best
Jason Kidd was the first coach to unlock the potential of Giannis Antetokounmpo. He sadly gets brought up too much when talking about this Bucks team. Kidd likes to take credit for molding this roster, but in reality, he did not do anything of the sort. If anything, Kidd held the team back from its potential with his poor coaching, bad game management skills and horrible players coach. Los Angeles Lakers seem to disagree. A rumor got floated out yesterday that the reason the Lakers wanted Kidd so badly on their bench was to entice Giannis to come to play in Los Angeles around 2021. This is the funniest rumor in a long, long time. Here’s how Los Angeles leaked it to the media via Newsday.
It is just speculation right now, but one person asked me if I knew why Kidd was there and as I guessed at his relationship with LeBron James or his ability to tutor Lonzo Ball, the person familiar with the Lakers process said something else: that Kidd was brought to Los Angeles to attract Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent in two years when the Bucks star could become an unrestricted free agent.
First, this is an amazing boondoggle by Kidd. He wanted to get into the Lakers organization, therefore, Kidd said in the interview that if the team chooses him, he’ll get Giannis. There was some uncertainty about him as the head coach, therefore, Lakers decided to keep him on staff with the hope that Giannis will want to come here in two years. The former Bucks coach is not great at sticking around, so, to have a two-year plan with him feels dicey at best. Second, I cannot believe the Lakers floated this rumor out there to get Ty Lue jealous. ‘Oh yeah, we have Kidd and now we’re getting Giannis.’ It is so childish and silly which is perfect for Los Angeles.
The Kidd return to Milwaukee will be absolute bloodlust in the crowd. It is definitely one of the first games to look for in the 2019-2020 season.
