The Marquette Surprise: D.J. Carton Joins Golden Eagles

Marquette Golden Eagles seem to reach out to every possible transfer. Golden Eagles head coach Steve Wojciechowski plus staff seemed hellbent on finding some upgrades for this team. It felt like come hell or high water Marquette would have a transfer on their roster. As others pointed out, this isn’t always the special sauce to make Marquette great. I remember in high school we had a kid come from Alabama to play football, and we thought he was the next Bo Jackson. Spoiler alert, he’s not. The fascination with new gets to all of us. Wojo struck out more than most people do at Murph’s or Caffs before landing a major fish that surprised every Marquette fan… D.J. Carton. He is exactly the type of player Marquette needs for next season.
It’s official💙💛🦅 let’s go❗️❗️ pic.twitter.com/xHdDUZGqd5

Carton is a traditional transfer. It is assumed he will sit out next year then be a Golden Eagle moving forward. Now with the coronavirus combined with his reason for walking away from Ohio State, mental health, Carton may be able to join the roster next season. It is not out of the question to have Carton on this roster next season. And if they do, Marquette immediately becomes better and will be in the mix again to make the NCAA Tournament. Big East could be the best conference in basketball next season and adding Carton will help out.
What does he bring to the table? Carton can shoot the ball with being 40% from deep. He is also good as a passer and athletic as all hell. The other thing to like about him if you watch some college and high school tape is he’s fearless around the rim. All of these things are pretty good then add into the fact he played great defense at Ohio State, and you’re a pig in shit as a fan. The only issue is the turnovers. That can be frustrating, but he is a young kid. That takes some time to figure out.
Welcome to the squad, D.J.
