Where Do The Packers Rank in Top NFC & NFL Teams?

If you’ve read me for a while, I’m anti-power rankings for the most part. Sure, we do fun stuff like ‘SnoTapWI Top Five’s’ but the concept of power rankings bothers me. Why? Well, people use them for clicks and debates without any real substance behind them. But now and again there is an outlier. Doug Farrar of the Touchdown Wire gave his power rankings of the NFL teams in Summer. Farrar puts the Packers at the seventh spot in the NFL and fourth in the NFC. That feels almost fair to me, but given his comments, the national media painted a picture of what the Packers will be this season.
Looking at the rankings, they’re fair for the most part. My only quip might be putting Buffalo ahead of Green Bay. That is asking a lot of the Bills and young quarterback Josh Allen. I know they have a good defense but that feels like a major step up for this team. Packers are behind Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and San Francisco currently. The love for Tampa might be a bit strong, but other than that, I believe this how most people will see the NFC played out this season if going chalk. San Fran-New Orleans-Green Bay-Dallas-Tampa Bay-Team X. Now, we know the NFL never goes entirely chalk.
Packers will be a team that the national media looks to discredit all summer. Farrar is critical of their offseason yet puts them in the seventh spot. That will be something people do all season. Given how good Green Bay was last year, it will not surprise me to see people pick the Packers to regress, and a team like Minnesota or Chicago win the division. Some tryhards might go with Detroit. As Green Bay fans, we need to bounce this off our bodies. People are not understanding what Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst are trying to do with this team. Once the Packers are 7-2 or 8-1, things will make a lot more sense.
I cannot wait for September.
