WI Sports Tap List 5/4: Brewers Cost Themselves a Win + Packers Play Damage Control
Welcome to the Tap List. If you’re like, this is new, you would be right. I created this yesterday and going to test it out for the month of May at least. I’m trying to figure out how to serve you guys the recaps that I like to write in a fun way that is not going to like the ones you read elsewhere. Therefore, the idea here would be to present a newsletter-like format that gives you what you need to know every day around 8:00 AM. If you have any feedback, or you liked ‘Star Ratings’, let me know.
What Happened This Yesterday?
– Brewers fall to the Phillies, 4-3, in a frustrating game: Milwaukee dropped their second straight game with a loss to Philadelphia last night. Adrian Houser got off to a rough start then figured it out as the game went along. While the Brewers did get both Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain back, they saw struggles elsewhere. An error allowed in a run. Avisail Garcia got picked off in the eighth in a big moment. Milwaukee had their opportunities in this one and didn’t capitalize.
– Packers try to make a case to the media again that Aaron Rodgers is their guy: Interesting nuggets that came out yesterday in the Packers trying to rebuild their relationship with their star quarterback. News finally came out that Green Bay wanted Justin Jefferson and Brandon Aiyuk in 2020, and after that, it threw off the rest of the 2020 Draft. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst also told Albert Breet yesterday that Rodgers will be more involved in the day-to-day activities of the team.
Stars of the Day
Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich – Happy to get those guys back on the roster. It doesn’t really matter how they played. Just having Cain and Yelich back together at the top of the lineup should help the Brewers offense. Cain did add a home run and Yelich got on base a few times. I don’t get why Tyrone Taylor got the shaft here. He should be still up the roster. Keston Hiura getting sent down is not surprising. He needs some time to rework his hitting.
Highlight of the weekend
Lorenzo Cain wants you to know he's back!
— Milwaukee Brewers (@Brewers) May 3, 2021
Lorenzo Cain’s welcome back dinger – As mentioned, Lo Cain had a home run. It was a big one. There’s no better way to welcome yourself back to the roster. We need a Yelich homer now. We haven’t had one all season. Hopefully, it’s coming soon.
Headlines heading into the day in the State of Wisconsin
– As the Aaron Rodgers turns with a few different articles advocating that the team should trade him. I imagine this is something we’ll talk about the podcast tomorrow. Tom Silverstein made the case. As did former Packers beat writer Ty Dunne.
-Davante’s tweet will get a lot of run. We talked about how annoying this will all be.
– Even though all this Rodgers stuff is going on, I hope there is some Bucks-Nets talk. Last big game on the Bucks schedule before the playoffs.
What’s on Tap Tonight?
Milwaukee Bucks are in action to take on the Brooklyn Nets. It is on TNT, but it is also being broadcast locally, so, you have to watch it on Bally Sports app. Things have gotten better with Bally. Enjoy Jim and Marques tonight versus whomever is doing the national telecast as the Bucks look for third straight win.
Milwaukee Brewers are also playing tonight as they go game two with the Philadelphia Phillies. I’d hate to lose this one as you basically cancel out what happened against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Not going to be easy this evening with Aaron Nola on the mound who is very good at home against Eric Lauer. Someone tell Lauer he’s playing the Dodgers.
